HF 397 – Occasional Work for Child Labor
FLOOR ACTION:
HF 397 relates to the child labor law and defines “occasional” in Iowa Code. As amended, the bill removes schools and local workforce offices from the process of obtaining a child labor work permit. Instead, the child would obtain a work permit through the Iowa Workforce Development website. The child would fill out their portion, the parent fills out their portion, and the employer fills out their portion. The child/parent keeps a copy, the employer keeps a copy, and a copy is sent to the Division of Labor. This procedure eliminates burdensome steps and streamlines the process. Current regulations regarding hours, permitted occupations and prohibited occupations remain the same. The effective date is June 1, 2015. [4/21: 48-0 (Chelgren, McCoy excused)]
